Painting Squares is Lila’s deep dive into her own psyche; as an artist, she is constantly pursuing the relentless need to create. It is a spin off of the countless typical art process videos you can find on Youtube- but she adds her own twist, portraying the emotional side of creation alongside the painting process. It shows the creation of a painting, part of a series of grid-and-shape-based acrylic works, exploring somewhat random three dimensional spaces.

Lila spent four days painting, producing the audio, and producing the video using Final Cut Pro to edit hours of footage stopping only to eat, sleep, and use the bathroom. The video itself serves as an extension of the obsessive artistic process she is trying to convey.

Lila is fascinated by the relationship between physical reality and lived experience.

The structures of the eyes and ears, vibrations in the air, patterns of light, and networks of neurons somehow give rise to color, sound, space, emotion, and a coherent sense of reality. The fact that these physical systems generate such rich experiences feels both ordinary and profoundly strange.

Through painting, sound, and visual experiments, she explore moments when perception becomes noticeable to itself, when orientation shifts, familiar assumptions break down, and the process of experiencing the world briefly comes into view. Rather than offering explanations, her work creates opportunities for curiosity, inviting viewers to share in a question that continues to fascinate her:

How does a physical world become an experience?
